Spring Summer Beauties

Winter 2012 was great; we had some brilliant and bold beauty trends including a mass of berry shades from vibrant cranberry hues to darker colours that made you look like you’ve been hitting the merlot all night (in a good way!)
We love winter but the time has come to wave you goodbye; we’re done with trying to rescue ourselves from dull dry skin and lank hair, there is not enough concealer in the world to cover those relentless dark circles under our eyes. So it’s time to overhaul your make-up bag and look forward to the spring and everything that it has to offer; not just sunshine and longer days not even the better moods thanks to good old vitamin D but new spring beauty trends!
This season prime your faces for bold hues and big brows, the make up on the catwalks saw vibrant pops of colour that have certainly been noticed by their absence in 2012. We’re going to take a look at some of this year’s biggest hair and beauty trends to help you shine and shed the winter blues in style!

Literally one of the biggest trends of the season came courtesy of facial hair! Thanks to super model du jour Cara Delevigne big bold brows are taking centre stage on the runways at the moment. So chuck away the tweezers and hold off on waxing and let your brows grow free! A strong brow will frame your face and add contour to it whilst making your other features look delicate in comparison. To create brilliant bushy brows all you need to do is make sure you have the right kit! For those who already have a strong brow that just needs taming then your beauty must have is a brow gel, this will keep those stray hairs in place and if you’re after a more dramatic look then you can pick up a tinted brow gel for maximum impact. An eyebrow pencil will also be your new best friend, helping to fill out any areas that need it and ensuring a good shape, if you have brows that don’t have a much of a defined shape to your brow then an eyebrow stencil is just what you need for a quick cheat to perfect eyebrows. For some brow-inspiration then take a look at the models from Marc Jacobs S/S 13 shows, Jason Wu, Alexander Wang and Thakoon for something a little more avant guard!

One beauty trend that we are particularly happy to see back is the return of the tan, we’re not talking crazy dark tans but natural sun kissed skin. There’s nothing better than a healthy looking colour to your skin to make you look your best. The catwalks were no longer commandeered by whiter than white limbed models but bronzed lovelies, we saw everything from the slightest hint of a tan to deep hue with dewy touches. So make sure you work on creating a stunning natural tan by using a daily gradual tanner on your face and body, to create a look that is slightly more dramatic then make sure you don’t step outside the house without a trusty bronzer. Brush bronzer over the plains of your face, these are the areas that would naturally get more sun; your forehead, nose and cheekbones. Maintaining a beautifully bronzed look is a key look this summer but this is a trend that shouldn’t be taken too far, nothing looks worse than a dark, fake looking tan. Test out the tan trend with natural looking make-up; a touch of mascara and some natural lip tint will help create a gorgeous on trend beauty look.

As the winter recedes and we begin to see the first tentative signs of spring (about time too!) we’re seeing a lot more colour than last season, think bright pops of colour on the lips, nails and eyes, although not necessarily worn all together, unless you want to channel the off-duty clown look. One of the most predominant colours that we noticed for this season is blue for the eyes.  With blue being the colour of choice from the likes of Stella McCArtny and Versace it’s not too difficult to re-create catwalk looks yourself. Whether you’re after a clean splash of colour or a high impact shade then go ahead! We love the simple touches such as a swish of bright blue liquid eyeliner for a minimal modern take on the trend.

Following on with the colour theme don’t be fooled into thinking that it is just confined to your eyes, if you’re not one for wearing bright shades on your eyelids then why not try out a bold coloured lip? Hot colours were everywhere and are another of our favourite trends as it’s feminine, sexy and cool. Try out a different shade such as a hot pink or a purple but make sure you’re doing it right; this season wear your lipstick bright, matte and colour blocked. Invest in a lip-liner to create a precise contour and avoid the colour bleeding, a great tip to ensure long lasting colour is to use a powder on top of your lipstick for a perfect pout all day long.

So there you have it! A few of our favourite Spring / Summer 13 beauty looks that will have you turning heads in all the right ways. This summer is all about flawless skin and making a statement so weather you choose lips, eyes cheeks or brows then make sure you wear colour with confidence and don’t overdo it on the bronzer!
